Front Flo 90 spoke length

Postby tgoguely » March 2nd, 2017, 11:25 pm

Hi guys, I have an older (2012 I guess) Flo 90 that blew a bunch of spokes (crit crash) and needs to be rebuilt.

I couldn't seem to find the spoke length listed anywhere, what will I need?
Also, is it a no-no to mix bladed and non-bladed spokes in a re-build?
Is it best to use matching Sapim spokes or will standard j-bend spokes work?

Thanks for the info!

Hi Chris,

This time it's my front FLO90 that took the hit, so the spokes should be the same length on either side, right? I completely blew out 5 spokes on the left side, although I'll have to inspect the others closely as a couple of them took some hits (and bent but didn't break), so it may be worth replacing those as well. I'll check tonight.

I'm still in the process of evaluating if the carbon "fairing" on the wheel can be salvaged or not, so I may end up having to take it completely off and just keep the bare aluminum rim as a training wheel.

Also, I am interested in your opinion on using regular non-bladed spokes to repair a rear Flo90. I had to replace 2 spokes recently (rear drive side), and used standard (round) J-bend spokes. Was this a really bad idea, or just sub-optimal compared to having all the spokes be the same?

Thanks!

Hi Chris,

I understand the concerns regarding riding wheels that have taken a hit, I'll be sure to give them extra scrutiny and make sure nothing structural is damaged.

In terms of replacement FLO spokes (not bladed the whole way), would it be possible to get some from you guys? I would be looking for 6x spokes for the FLO90 front (5 got blown, and 1 is visibly bent, although depending on cost, I may just get a full set of 10 and replace them all), and 2x for the FLO90 rear-non-drive side to replace the round ones that I had put in.

Cheers!
