Braking on carbon

Postby f.jimenez » April 15th, 2016, 7:07 am

Hi

There's plenty of "online evidence" to suggest that braking on carbon wheels is on par with aluminium rims, but when wet the braking suffers greatly. I have no first hand experience of this, but manufacturers seem to be doing something about it. See Zipp with their fancy braking surfaces, and even the open mould Chinese wheels like to highlight that they use "basalt braking surfaces", albeit I struggle to find any evidence of what this actually is and if and how it improves braking performance when wet.

Did you guys do any testing on the braking performance of your new wheels, and have you got any thoughts on how to improve it?

Thanks for your input!

Hi Chris

Thanks for the response. I look forward to the blog post

You mention that you require using your brake pads to keep the warranty, but you don't seem to sell the pads in your online shop. What does one do when the first set of pads wears out?

Thanks

When are the Carbon Brake Pads available? Order 25 has some wheels already in transit.

Thanks
