Flo 45 Carbon rim on a dynamo, disc-brake hub

Postby Ride Far » March 23rd, 2017, 2:50 pm

Here's a wheel that I recently built for someone who will be doing the self-supported this summer across Europe. It's a Flo 45 carbon rim on a SON dynamo, thru-axle disc-brake hub, plus a picture of it mounted on his orange Mason.

My website gives advice to people who are preparing for this style of bikepacking race and includes . As far as I'm aware, there basically aren't many other rims available that offer everything that the Flo rims do: aero-tested, available in a range of hole drillings, reasonable prices, etc. Keep up the great work!

I use rim brakes myself and have done the previous three Transcontinental Races on Flo 30 rims, as shown in the third picture, which shows a 28-hole Flo 30 rim on a rear DT Swiss hub and a 24-hole Flo 30 on a SP dynamo front hub on my Ridley Fenix SL during the 2016 TCR in central France.

Wow, nice work. You have built very close to my dream wheels.

I love the ride I get from my Flo 60-90 clincher wheel set with 25mm tires on my tri bike and I am eagerly awaiting the new Flo disc rims to equip my commuter/tourer. I run 32-37mm tires on my commuter/tourer so I'm wondering/hoping the Flo disc rims might be a bit wider.

Nice web site and appreciate your info about wheel building for this type of use. Those SP dyno hubs look like a great value and likely to wind up on my bike before long.

I think you're right on about aero rims for distance riding. How often I've been riding into a mean head wind and wishing I could borrow some aero from my tri bike.
