Light riders and crosswinds

Postby goldstone0 » September 21st, 2014, 12:10 am

Any light riders (around 120lbs) using a 60/90 combo in tris/TTs? I'm looking at a set and am wondering if the combo is suitable for someone of my weight in crosswinds.

It really depends on your bike handling abilities. There are plenty of athletes in your weight range using deeper wheels. If you are a very timid bike handler then you may have an issue. If however, you are a confident bike handler, I don't see you having an issue.

Does that make sense?

Thanks for the reply Chris. I might go with the disc if I'm lucky but the 90 if all the discs have gone. From what I understand, discs add to stability (and they look awesome).

Rear wheels have a MUCH smaller effect on handling. As you mentioned they can even help stabilize. It's the front wheel you need to be careful about. The front wheel has a steering axis which can make things interesting.

I hope that helps,
