Rim difference between Flo 90 and Flo 30?

Postby tgoguely » September 17th, 2014, 1:30 pm

Are the rims different between the Flo 90 and 30, and more specifically, are the spokes the same length? If not, which one is longer?

i.e. could you unlace a Flo 90, take the hub+spokes, and lace it to a Flo 30 rim?

All so that you would then have a Flo 90 rim ready to lace to a PowerTap hub =) Yes, I know that this is not approved and would require some hole modifications in the fairing.

The rims and spokes are different in the FLO 90 and 30. The FLO 90 spokes are custom machined to extend the non bladed section just outside of the fairing. In a shallow rim wheel this would look a little off. On a standard build 30 we use 280/282 mm for drive/non drive and on a standard build 90 we use 292/294 mm for drive/non drive.

Unfortunately no.

As you said, you may have to cut the carbon to make that work. Which - as you can imagine - we don't recommend.

Thanks for the reply Chris, and I totally understand that this is not recommended =)

And super cool about the FLO90 spokes having the non-bladed section extend past the fairing, very nice touch most people probably don't realize is there!

Yeah it needs to be done. If you use standard CX-Ray spokes in our 60 or 90 they twist and break between the fairing and the rim. That is why we needed to extend the non bladed section up to the fairing. It makes a better built wheel.

Take care,
