Flo wheels for tandem use?

Postby tgoguely » September 17th, 2014, 1:20 pm

Would this be possible (and a good idea), or put too much weight on the wheels? Thoughts on the braking performance since this would have to use rim brakes as opposed to discs?

The rear would be a 28-spoke Clydesdale build, of course.

Good question. We do not recommend our wheels for tandem use. That said, you could get a wheel builder to build up our FLO 30 rims to meet the demand of tandem use.

I hope that helps,

Thanks for the input Chris!

I'm assuming that if building FLO30s for tandem use, going with the 32 hole option would be best. Once headed down the custom-built wheel route, I would most likely go with disc brake hubs, there shouldn't be any problems with that, right?

I can't answer that one directly. Since I'm not the one putting the build spec together I can't say. You'll have to speak with an experienced wheel builder - and I'd suggest a wheel builder with tandem experience - to make sure the build they put together can handle the weight of two riders.

I wish I had a more direct answer, but there are too many variables to answer that one.

Take care,

Fair enough, thanks for the help, I'll talk to the wheelbuilder and post back here with info once I have it.
