Using 10 speed cassette on 11 speed hub

Postby walie » December 3rd, 2013, 1:35 pm

Hey guys, so I picked up some flo 90s for my bike and with the idea of future proofing, I got the 11 speed hub. When the wheels came in, I saw a spacer on the hub on the wheel as well as another hub body in the box (as detailed on the order info). I just want to confirm, I can just put a 10 speed cassette on the current hub + spacer correct?

Thanks!

I'll copy my answer from ST here so everyone else can see it...

You can certainly use a 10spd cassette on the 11spd freehub + the spacer. Just make sure the spacer goes on before the cassette. You will not need to swap the freehub bodies. We simply include it with the order.

Starting in 2014, all FLO wheels - with the exception of the FLO DISC for right now - will come standard with an 11spd freehub body and a spacer for 10spd.

Take care,

How much to order a 11s free hub I wasn't luck enough to be in the 11s order. I have plans to upgrade from my felt b16 to a p3 in the next year.

Erockk,

Thanks for writing. Additional free hub bodies are available in our shopping cart for $35.

Walie/Chris or Jon

I ordered a set of FLO 30s that arrived last week (I haven't had the chance to properly mess with them yet due to work), I had the same idea as you and bought an 11spd wheelset even though I run a 10spd atm.
Does your 11spd hub say "11 speed" on the freehub body?
Did I read correctly that you also received the 10spd hub and necessary spacers in the box?

The reason that I ask is that I think I have received a 10 speed hub by mistake as I only received the hub that was attached to the rear wheel, the hub doesn't say 11 speed on it, and I didn't receive a spacer.

Liaman,

Sorry for the confusion. Can you please let me know your order number so I can look up your order?

Thanks,

Just to be sure I'm clear, with the 11-speed hub on the FLO Disc - all I need to use is the included FLO spacer? I was initially thinking I had to add the FLO spacer AS WELL AS the 1mm rear spacer included with my Shimano cassette. Just want to clarify if I should use just the FLO or both for a 10-speed cassette.

The spacer provided with a FLO wheel will convert the 11 speed freehub body to a 10 speed freehub body. If your cassette requires additional spacers to work with a standard 10 speed freehub body then I would imagine you will also need to use that spacer with the FLO spacer provided.

What type of wheel did you have the 10 speed freehub installed on before swapping it to the FLO wheel? What type of spacers were you using on that wheel?

I'll add that if your old wheel is a Mavic wheel then you will likely not need the extra spacer. Mavic free hub bodies are longer than standard freehub bodies and always require their spacer.

Thanks,

So my 'other' rear wheel is a FLO 90. I guess the real answer would be to take off the cassette from the 90 (2012 purchase, so whatever hub that is) and see if there's a spacer on there or not. If there is, then I guess I'll add it onto the disc in addition to the FLO spacer you provided.

This is a 12/27 Shimano cassette for both wheels.
