Tires and tubes for Flo 30's

Postby mrr11 » June 25th, 2013, 12:02 pm

Chirs and John,
I'm getting ready for the arrival of my new Flo 30's, and wanted to confirm the recommended tires and tubes. It was clear from the wind tunnel testing that the Continental GP 4000 S tires are the way to go. Just wanted to confirm the size. If I recall from your testing, you used a 23 mm tire and I assume that is what is recommended.

Also, is there a particular type of tube that you would recommend with the 30's?

Thanks!
MR

We definitely recommend the Continental GP 4000s in 23mm. It's perfect for the FLO 30.

Not really. Tubes are basically tubes. For training I recommend using an affordable option in butyl. 48mm valves should be fine. For racing some switch to latex tubes because they provide a lower rolling resistance. Latex tubes are harder to install/work with and are quite expensive. Personally I have never used them.

Thanks!
MR

I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Take care,

Ok.........Flo 30's have had two releases. Mine are coming in this last one. Would like to go "naked"/tubeless this time around on my road bike. What TUBELESS tires are people trying?... Sealant/type & how much?... .tire pressure/your weight/riding style..... and how's it going?

The FLO 30s rim is designed to better handle a tubeless set up. The clincher bead almost locks into place. I haven't personally gone tubeless so I can't give many first hand recommendations but I would recommend the following.

Get a full Stan's Kit and follow their directions. I had a good chat with those guys at Interbike and their system works well. I think some of the faster tires are the Hutchison Atom tires. You may want to try those.

I hope that helps,

What Stan's tape width do you recommend for the Flo 30? Do I use the 21mm tape (normally used for road tubeless and narrower mtb rims) or the 25mm tape? Thanks.

The 21mm should be perfectly fine.

I recently received a set of FLO 30's and mounted 25 mm Continental GP 4000S II on them. My bike is a Ridley Fenix, and the wheels and tires fit great -- no clearance issues. I could probably fit 28mm tires on them, but the 25mm are handling fine so I will probably stick with them for a while. Anybody out there try running 28mm tires on the FLO 30?

As a side note, I was anticipating having a bear of a time putting the Conti tires on the wheels, based on some of the other Forum comments I read, but was pleasantly surprised to be able to mount the tires without having to use levers (and I'm no Superman).

BTW, I'm thrilled with the wheels. Thanks for a great product, Chris and Jon.

Conti tubes come in 42 or 60mm. Is the 42mm stem long enough for Flo 30 rim?
