Any Canadian FLO Wheel users here??

Postby bikerdude221 » November 21st, 2012, 3:12 pm

Hey everyone,

I am on the fence of getting a set of FLO Wheels but my worry is our CCRA.

When you ordered your set, HOW HARD did you get hit on Duty and Import Fees?

PLS let me know thanks

Cheers from Southern Ontario

Well I guess it is a secret of what happened with our customs or no wheels ever sold up here in Canada.

I am not willing to to test the water without some form of knowledge.

Sorry but I will pass on the Pre-Order#3 until I get confirmation of the outcome from your Canadian buyers. :(

I'm in Toronto and going to buy on Pre-Order # 3. I'll let you know the damage, I hope/expect only to pay taxes and $10 processing fee.

Cheers, D

We've had dozens of Canadian customers. I haven't heard of an exact value but we haven't heard any complaints. I did a Google search and found this information. I can't guarantee the prices but this is probably a good place to start. If you want to know exact figures I suggest you speak with a customs officer.

Just about everything individuals import into Canada is subject to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) of five percent (possibly 6.5% for bicycle parts). The GST is calculated after customs duties have been applied.

You will also have to pay the applicable Canadian Provincial Sales Tax (PST) or Quebec Sales Tax (QST). The provincial retail sales tax rates vary from province to province, as do the goods and services to which the tax is applied and the way the tax is applied.

In Canadian provinces with a Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario and British Columbia), you'll be charged the HST, rather than separate GST and provincial sales tax.

I hope that helps,

@ darlh123 Thanks a bunch, as you know CCRA is NOT the must trusted agency up here.

@Chris, the main issue is the wheel is pre-built which can fall under various classification. We all know about the GST/HST plus provincial taxes... No ones gets away from that... the concern is the DUTY classification.

Look I crossed a Pinarello Dogma 60.1 frameset with ZERO taxation as the custom agent found it cool and was an avid cyclist. My buddy brought in a Stevens Bike fully built for less then my frame and got hit hard on Duty.

It's the HARD part that scares me.

From what you are saying it sounds like there is no set amount and it's based on the mood/discretion of the officer. Is that correct?

Given that fact I'm not sure anyone will be able to tell you a price. You might want to call your local office and discuss it with them. Just a thought.

Pretty much the same with us over here in the UK.

Well kind of, there is no discretion here and it would not suprise me if the officers get a bonus based on how much import tax they bring in !!

I was about to place an order in pre order 3 for a 60-60 set and then in Feb pre order 4 i would order a disc but the taxing and postage on 2 orders would turn the wheels into a zipp costing set which i can not afford im affraid.

Looks like we all get stuffed by our governments :(

If any wheel(s) order shipped to Canada is charged more the 6.5% duty, you should dispute the charge and quote the Customs Tariff item 8714.99.10 00 which indicates the applicable duty is 6.5%. Federal/Provincial/HST taxes on top of the duty as well.

8714.99.10 - - -Bicycle wheels - 6.5%

There was an argument made for assembled hub, spoke and rim to the classified ad 8714.99.90 (duty free), but is was decided that bicycle wheels do not need tape, tube, valve or tire to be classified as a 'wheel'
