Ridley Damocles: Will the Flo 30 fit?

Postby CharlieRN » July 9th, 2016, 4:16 pm

I've been looking for a moderately priced wide wheels to replace the stock Reynolds Solitudes that came on my '12 Ridley Damocles. The Flo 30 looks like just the thing however, I'm concerned about the fit. The FAQ here lists two Ridley bikes (the Noah and Dean) that the Flo 30 either won't fit or is very tight on, but the Damocles isn't mentioned.

A rough measurement with my SS drafting ruler shows a bit over 5mm of clearance from the chainstay on either side of the Solitude rim (10+mm in total, which Reynolds lists as 19mm wide. The clearance to the tire (23mm Conti 4000) is slightly less than that, a bit over 4mm to each side. Assuming the Solitude is really 19mm, I need a total of just under 6mm of clearance and my rather gross measurements would seem to indicate that the Flo 30 would fit the rear. It looks to me that there is more clearance between the forks, so I didn't measure things there.

I can't seem to find anything elsewhere on the web and have e-mailed Ridley about this, but thought I would ask the question in this forum as well.

I have not heard of any fit issues with that frame. Judging by the measurements you've given me, I'd say you won't have any fit issues. If you purchase the wheels, you can return them as long as you haven't used them if you have a fit issue (but I don't think you will). Basically, we recommend customers put the wheel into the frame without installing the cassette to make sure everything fits.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Take care,
