60/90 setup on a Blue Triad EX

Postby Meathead » April 8th, 2015, 8:35 am

I have seen several pictures of FLO wheels on Blue bikes & the Triad SP is called out on the "tight fit" list, but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience in putting a 60/90 set on a Blue Triad EX. Because the EX has an integrated bayonet front end, it differs from the SP. I was curious if anyone knows if that has been an issue. The rear, as far as I can tell, should be the same as the SP.

Here are pics of the Triad EX: http://imgur.com/a/hGZWH

I also know that there is a separate thread for tubes/tires, but I was wondering that if the Triad EX has the same "tight fit" caveat as the SP, if there is a tube/tire recommendation that would be better to avoid any kind of rubbing issues when installing a 60/90 set of FLO wheels.

Thanks for any help & input!

Earlier models had a very narrow chain stay where the tire ran. Wider tires (23mm) can have the tendency to rub the frame. In the case where I saw a 23mm tire rub, a 22mm tire worked. That said not all 23mm tires are the same and some could work. It really depends on the frame you have. You could try a couple options and see if they worked before settling on your tire. I'm sure your local bike shop wouldn't mind helping you figure that out if you are buying the tire from them.

In the pictures it looks like there is a little more room at the rear chain stay but it's hard to say exactly. I "think" blue added a little space on newer models but I'm not 100% sure. I've never seen an issue with the front wheel. You look like you have a ton of space there.

I'll send a message to Blue to see if the newer models have more space at the rear triangle. If they get back to me I'll post that info here.

Take care,

In case anyone searches & has questions about the fit on a Blue Triad EX, I can say they fit perfectly. My LBS had to replace the stock brake pads to a more low profile set of Shimano 105 pads, but that had to do with the angle of how the pads hit the rims. I also put 700x23 tires on them & there is no rubbing or tight fit at all.
